The Programme Planning Committee for IUISC 2010 welcomes proposals, in abstract form, for conference papers on a variety of topics under the conference theme of “Success Strategies for Challenging Times”. This broad theme will allow for the consideration and exploration of a wide range of issues and topics contextually set within a rapidly changing higher education sector and a changed economic environment
Within the Higher Education environment Libraries and IT Departments are being faced with major changes to resourcing levels in the short to medium term. In this environment how are levels of service to be maintained and developed Strategies for success: resilience in the face of the inevitable or creative adaptation?
1. Maintaining and developing services: creative and effective responses to changes in the economic environment
2. Visioning the future
Given this conference programme context, examples of topics welcome include:
• Scenario planning for the long-term impact of the recession
• Innovation
• Process improvement in the workplace
• Intra-university cooperation shared services; resource sharing etc.
• Outsourcing
• Green ICT Environmentally friendly computing
• Developing co-operative strategies for libraries and computer centres
• Effective management of resources in a time of cuts:
• Facing Cancellations in the Age of E-Journal Packages”
• Business continuity / disaster recovery
• Cloud computing
• Creative use of staff time and expertise
• The development of an architected, enterprise-wide IT infrastructure
• Governance of IT
• New service initiatives supporting teaching and learning and research
• Mobile technologies
• Virtualisation
• High performance computing
• Project and Portfolio management
• Risk assessment
• IT services management
• Web 2.0 applications in the higher education environment
The emphasis of proposals should be on reflection and evaluation rather than merely on describing what has happened. Proposals encouraging active participation by delegates will be given preference.
Most sessions at IUISC 2010 will be one hour sessions in workshop form, though there may be some spaces for presentations to larger groups also lasting one hour. Papers may be 20 minutes or 40 minutes in length to allow time for discussion. We welcome presentations by more than one person and particularly joint presentations by staff from Library and computing services.

Each proposal will be reviewed against the following criteria:
• relevance to the conference theme and strands
• relevance to the IUISC community
• clarity and coherence of the proposal
• evaluation of educational impact, practice and or/policy
• opportunities for participants to actively engage in the session and to reflect on transferability to their own practice.
Acceptance Process
Each proposal will be reviewed for acceptance at the conference against the following criteria:

Acceptance of Abstract
You will be advised as to whether or not your Abstract has been accepted as soon as possible after submission, but not later than the 12th February. Your paper/presentation will be due by 28th February for inclusion on the conference website.
You are also asked to submit a brief paragraph detailing your own background and experience.
