Andrew
Cormack
Andrew Cormack has been Head of
JANET-CERT since 1999. The
team provides advice and assistance on computer security matters to the 800
sites connected to the JANET network in the UK. Since 1999 the team has also
been providing services under contract to sites connected to HEANet. Andrew's
ambition is to persuade all those responsible for networked computers to
take security measures before they are broken into, rather than after. For
some reason this seems less obvious to system owners than it should.
Before joining
JANET-CERT Andrew was a systems administrator at the University of Wales,
Cardiff, where he was responsible for web, news, e-mail and cache systems.
He wrote two commissioned reports on Web Caching and Web Security in 1998:
sadly there has been far less progress since then in the security field than
in caching.
